So it was a weekend of firsts for sure around the Sunday River TV station.
It was the first weekend I was hosting the show. It was the first weekend of live shows of the 2015-16 season. It was the first set of live shows with Nora as the Station manager. It was the first time we were streaming live to YouTube and using the new website.
So what could possibly go wrong!
Surprisingly, not a whole lot. (I know, I’m shocked too!)
There were two minor exceptions:
- The day before we were supposed to go live, one of our broadcast cameras went belly up and we had to beg, borrow, and damn near steal a camera from our friends at the North Conway, NH studio. Nora sped out there, picked it up, and came back with a glorious Canon XL1.
- We streamed the entire first show to the Internet without audio and in the wrong aspect ratio. Believe me, the only thing you missed was my stammering.
So all told, the weekend went off without a hitch. I gotta tell you that sitting in that host’s chair is terrifying, but having great guests really made my job easy.
On Friday, we introduced everyone to Samantha, the new Snow Reporter for Sunday River. She was followed by Brad Jerome of the Bethel Inn, and then Jessie Perkins of the Bethel Chamber of Commerce. By the time 9am rolled around, I was just as surprised as everyone else that there wasn’t an angry mob waiting outside the studio with pitchforks and torches.
Saturday, Heidi from Sunday River Sports dropped in and talked all about Demo Days. Wade Kavanaugh from the Gem Theater also stopped in to talk about the fundraiser they have going in order to bring back the local movie cinema.
As we cruised into Sunday, we were starting to get our bearings, but we’re still working to get the lighting just right.Over the break, we built an entirely new ceiling mounted lighting rig and we are learning very quickly how much different that is from the previous floor mounted setup. Jonathan Goldberg of True North Adventurware brought in a truckload of essential winter gear to check out, and Amanda Moran from Nabos brought us the funkiest gifts for the holiday season.
If you want to check out any of the show archives, you can always find them on our YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe while you’re there!
Thanks to everyone that stopped by this weekend, but stay tuned…we have a lot up our sleeves!
